  • Rick Santorum, the Republican President calls President Obama “a Snob”, as Obama expressed his desire that all Americans should attend college.  It seems Santorum is out of step with the people’s overall view of higher education.

Many American are dubious of the university culture and most of them are highly unsatisfied about the increasing costs of tuition. They all agree that higher education is important for all. They aim to get higher education for themselves and for their children.

Santorum on his campaign trail criticized the liberal nature of the higher education society. His arguments strengthened his bets, which led into Tuesday’s primaries in Arizona and Michigan.
Santorum said that President Obama wants everyone in America to go to college. However, there are many men and women who work hard daily, putting their talents to test.

They are not taught by liberal college professors. Santorum added that he can understand why President wants all to go to college. He desires to recreate all in his image. Santorum said that he wanted to create jobs, which help people recreate their kids into their image and not president’s.

Santorum’s criticism is not right. He gave an erroneous meaning to Obama’s statement. In fact, Obama has expressed his wish that all American should receive some form of higher education and not necessarily from four year colleges, like what Santorum has reiterated. President wants to regain the America’s number one position in college education by 2020.

Most of the higher education initiatives of Obama including his proposal for $8 billion find to focus on work study programs at community colleges offering certificate and degree programs for less than four years emphasized his viewpoint clearly. Our President speaking to Governors at the White House highlighted his goal again.

He said that by higher education we are not just talking about a four year college degree. We are talking about students going to a community college and receiving training for manufacturing jobs. Now the job market is open for them. They cannot go unless they have obtained enough training in addition to what they received in high school.

Jay Carney, White House Press secretary said that he did not believe that President was reacting to Santorum’s comment particularly. He added that no parent in America would think it snobbery to have the desire to provide the best possible education to the child in future and this include college also.

Mitt Romney is the main challenger of Santorum. He neither agrees with Santorum nor Obama. He stated that those who have interest and skills to go to college should get that opportunity. However, there are some people who take a different path in their lives. Not all Americans are going to attend college and we need to allow people to have their own course in life. However, there is no doubt that if somebody wants to go to college, the cost of tuition should be affordable, so that people can choose the option suitable for them.
