Remember the old adage, ‘If it looks too good to be true, then it isn’t’? I took a bit of poetic license with that one but really, no one is perfect and here is living proof.
Philip Markoff is handsome, clean-cut and a medical student at Boston University to boot. He was planning a beachfront wedding to a gorgeous woman this summer. Too good to be true! I would say so and look at what happened.
The massive weight of all of this studying, appearing to be someone that he isn’t and getting married all at once was too much for even the best of the best of the pretenders and he blew a gasket. Markoff is charged with murdering one woman and attempting to rob and tie up another woman. He is also implicated in other prostitute’s murders.
The women that he chose were found under the personal ads in Craigslist. Not the best place to advertise your needs and wants. This is too perfect for a personality such as Markoff. Lonely women with whom he could take advantage, beat and rob or murder. Too easy! Most of us who had been around the man could have figured out this scenario long before it happened.
Why did he go out at night? Where was his fiancée? Had he exhibited sociopathic behaviors in childhood? Was he treated for any mental or emotional difficulties? Were his parents overly strict and demanding? Who were his friends and classmates?
Oh now I get it! There was that one time when he…. Fill in the blanks. Why does anyone do what they do and get arrested? Will his family bail him out and send him to the family doctor? Will his fiancée still stand beside him? Time will tell!
