It is a fact that the education is falling in the United States in the recent decades. President Obama is trying hard in order to fix this problem. However unlike the former presidents of the country, Barrack Obama is not just looking for making some small changes. He wants to take care of every aspect related to education in the country and reconstruct the entire system. One particular issue that Obama wants to address is the problem of the Latino students. Proper attention is not given to these students who are not from an English background. Previously he also talked regarding the children of the illegal immigrants and to allow them to get college degrees and stay in the United States.
According to the current system of education in the country every student must pass the tests conducted on English literature and composition. These tests involve higher levels which the Latino students, who are from Spanish speaking families, are not capable of. Many of these students are there who have not been in this country for long but still they have to sit for the tests of same standard with students who spent their whole lives in the US and have spoken English from their childhood.
One thing which creates a problem is that lots of students who have English as the second language speak only in English when they are at school. However at most Latino households the language is rarely spoken. The population of Latino people in the United States is constantly growing. Along with that the ratio of the students from Latino families in the public schools in the US is also growing. At present over 20 % of the total students in the entire system of public school in the country is Latino.
According to the education secretary Arne Duncan, growing and tough challenges are faced by the Latino students in the country and this should be addressed by the administration. He said that just 50 % of the Latino students become high school graduates at their correct age. Only one in every eight students passes the college. Even in the community and city colleges the scenario is not much better.
President Obama wants to change the whole picture. He told that he wants to rebuild the system of education in order to ensure that all the children in the country get a fair opportunity to become successful.
The president understands the fact that for truly improving the educational system in the country various strategies are required for different types of students in the United States. All the aspects related to the system should be changed for every background as well as every neighborhood.
Obama wants to implement the changes from the grass root level. He believes that the system must be changed all the way from the kindergarten level to the colleges. Obama wants to create a workforce of the future that is educated through the best academic system in the world and to reach that goal it is important to focus on the Latino students.
