California has always been the leader in higher education, not just in America, but all over the world. This state was regarded as the best when it came to providing top notch educational facilities at reasonable tuition fee, a combination that you will seldom get to see these days.

Unfortunately, good times just don’t seem to last forever. The recent reductions in educational funding have dented the empire of California education system. It is no longer considered to be the ultimate destination for students. The biggest Universities in our country suddenly seem to be struggling with enrollments, a situation that was hard to think of just a few years back.

What is even more alarming is that California University caters to about 3 million students every year. This is approximately 15 percent of the total number of students across the country. With the best university not being able to cope up with fund issues, the situation is indirectly affecting the entire nation and its economy.

What is interesting to observe is the rate at which higher education funding is dropping. The last two year records show that it has gone down by about 30 percent. Considering the kind of funding this university requires, this is a massive drop. Moreover, two years is a very short period of time and it is almost impossible for any university to cope up with such drastic reduction of funds, literally leaving the educational system in ‘no man’s land’.

Analysis often comes up with facts that are horrifying at times. According to a report, if the reduction in higher education funding continues to drop at this rate, by the year 2048, none of the universities in our nation will have even a single penny to spend for higher education. Most of the people and educational experts are not very happy with the federal government.

Well, the fact is that federal government is playing its part as far as funding is concerned. Statistics shows that it is the government which grants about 180 billion dollars to colleges and universities in the country. The bitter truth is that states are lagging behind big time. The same statistics show that they have only contributed around 72 billion dollars, which is not even half of what the federal government is providing.

Now what remains to be seen is how our country is going to tackle this situation. According to experts, innovative funding techniques are the need of the hour. To begin with, states have to come up with innovative strategies that will help colleges and universities deal with this issue better.

For instance, it makes a lot of sense to follow what Australia is doing at the moment. Universities down under charge students according to the educational programs they select. This does have a massive impact on the overall tuition fee. This is certainly one of the aspects that our country an work on and implement immediately.
