3. SKYPE - cheapest way to stay connected w/friends and family

4. Start a Blog - another great way to let everyone how you are doing and it's usually free

5. Spend more time with the locals - afterall you are there to experience someone else's culture and life sytle right

6. Take trips and travel outside your host country - maximize your stay
