  • Drew University Library: General Information

INTRODUCTION: The Library staff's top priority is helping you to find the information you need, using whatever resources are necessary. Let us know if there is any way in which we can help you.

    FOR YOUR INFORMATION

HOURS: Library hours vary for each portion of the academic year and are posted at the entrance to the building, and on the Library web site at http://www.drew.edu/depts/library/hours.aspx. Materials are to be charged out at least 15 minutes before the posted closing time.

EATING, DRINKING AND SMOKING: Beverages in spill-proof containers are permitted. Food and smoking are not permitted in the Library.

REST ROOMS: Rest rooms are located along the west wall on levels C and E. There are also rest rooms on levels A and G.

PUBLIC PHONES: A public campus phone is located in the rear lobby on Level C. Please turn off cell phone ringers while in the Library.

PHOTOCOPIES: Photocopiers for print items are located near the Circulation Counter. Copiers accept coins, $1 and $5 bills and Drew Debit cards. In order to use your Drew ID as a debit card you must set up a discretionary debit account with the Business Office. No change for bills is provided at the Circulation Counter.

CHANGE MACHINE: There is a change machine in the rear lobby on Level C.

    SERVICES

CIRCULATION: Assistance in finding or borrowing books may be obtained at the Circulation Counter. Books and other materials which Drew does not own may be obtained through Interlibrary Loan. Inquire about these services at the Circulation Counter.

CATALOG: Drew's holdings may be found in the Drew Library Catalog (https://catalog.drew.edu). Reference staff are available to assist you with searching during regularly posted hours.

REFERENCE: Reference assistance is available at the Reference Counter. The Theological Librarian, whose office is to the left of the reference desk on level C, is also available for assistance with theological reference questions. We also offer an E-Reference service.

RESERVES: Materials in heavy demand for classes are often placed on reserve by professors. They may be borrowed for a limited time at the Reserves section of the Circulation Counter. Audio-visual materials on reserve are also housed at the Reserves section. Special carrels are provided for their use on level A.

    COLLECTIONS

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS: In addition to the general circulating collection of over 300,000 volumes, Drew maintains special collections of items such as dissertations and theses. If you need help in using any of the Drew collections ask for assistance at the Reference Counter or, if no one is there, at the Circulation Counter.

REFERENCE AND PERIODICALS: These two collections do not circulate and are available at all times for all users. The Reference Collection has many types of materials, including almanacs, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and periodical abstracts and indexes. The Periodical Collection includes bound volumes, microform issues, and current unbound copies, and many electronic collections available from the Research Resources page of our web site. Indexes to periodical literature are also available through Research Resources and in paper formats.

CORNELL ROOM: Theological reference volumes are housed in the Cornell Room on level E.

MICROFORM: Collections in the microfilm and microfiche formats are housed in the Microform Room on level C. Both readers and printers are available in this room. Printers require dimes which may be purchased at the Circulation Counter.

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS: Documents issued by the governments of the United States and New Jersey, as well as some published by the United Nations, are shelved on levels C and D. An increasing number of government publications are now available on the Internet, including many in the Library's electronic collections.
