  With another year gone by and a new one emerging, it is important to discuss the success of Higher Education. Today, a lot of importance is been given to college degree. According to study conducted at the U.S Department of Labor, it is clear that as many as 90% of the jobs in the near future would require professionals possessing training or degree from postsecondary educational universities.
 
  However, the past few years has seen a drastic fall in the number of graduates. Not so long ago, the United States of America was producing the highest number of graduates every single year. However, today the nation finds itself in the 13th position. This is a major setback for the country as it would directly have an effect on its ability to compete in the global economy.

  One of the major reasons why the number of graduates has been falling sharply is due to the fact that a large number of students get themselves enrolled in graduate programs, however, only a few hold onto the program till graduation. Hence, this is evident that somewhere there are loopholes in the educational system which eventually forces students to drop out of graduation programs.

  There are more then 6,000 higher education institutes in our country. You could probably address the issue if only a few universities were facing the problem of less number of graduates. However, this is not the case. More or less, almost every university is facing the same problem and this is certainly an area of concern. Usually, the students take a call whether they are ready for college or not. But the question that needs to be raised again and again in such a scenario is whether the college is ready for the students.

  One of the ways to get more students graduating every year is to improve the overall way in which a university functions. Ideally, the educational administration in the country should look at making degree programs more interesting. This would eventually help the students to hold onto the program a lot longer and they would hopefully not choose to drop out of the program midway. Universities would also do with a fresh and more skilled lot of mentors. The fact that a large number of students are dropping out of degree programs also suggests that the mentors and the faculty are probably not upto the mark.

  The educational administration in the United States is also looking at a possibility of coming up with certain programs that would bridge the gap between school and college. It has been observed that many students are not able to make the transition from school to college and hence such bridge programs could help the students to a great extent.

  A lot needs to be done by the administration, educators and higher education experts. A foolproof system has to be put in place to ensure that we move in the right direction and our efforts are not wasted.
