  • Introduction to Kindergarten for children is pretty jarring and strong. A better early education system can ease the pressure on small kids. According to the national Governor’s Forum Series’ report, this plunge for children can strongly be reduced by initiating a better system through counterintuitive steps.

Science proved that every child irrespective of whether he or she is a genius or a prodigy is capable of assimilating knowledge from a much younger age than was earlier thought. Those who are instilled with literacy skills from a very young age do well in their future academics according to research studies. Immense pressure on children is turned on by this type of research that is aimed at No Child Left Behind.

Pressure on small little children is evident with their parent’s concerns who demand reassurance from teachers that children get some time for play. Consequently, this has resulted in a lot of pressure on the teachers. Opinions of parents, especially mothers are evident on the parenting blogs in reaction to the provocative report “Crisis in the Kindergarten” from a non-profit group Alliance for Childhood. This group is engaged in bringing back to kindergarten the tradition of creative play. In fact, these blogs show that parents are pondering whether to keep their children away from schools for an extra year or even completely avoid public schools.

Situation is worse since the whole concept is misaligned. Instead of study and play complementing each other effectively to provide children with a balanced education, options today are opposed diametrically towards either play or study.

There is an urgent need to revamp the kindergarten system and relieve pressure from small children. Creative play for instance, is something of the past and teachers in kindergarten are no longer trained to provide an interesting and lively study atmosphere for children. For example, pretend play such as in a grocery store can foster the math skill in children.

Pre-school if made affordable for children from middle class families can effectively eliminate the time they need to put in extra work in order to keep up with the regular school studies pressure. This time can be spent in enjoyable play-based activities. Some children who come into regular school without pre-schooling do not even know how to write their name and have never enjoyed story time. Child care centres and private play schools are way out of reach for most of the low income families.

Teachers in pre-school feel half a day is just not enough to allow children to play with puzzles, dolls or blocks. A whole day is necessary to allow them to enjoy various creative activities. Critics however are sceptical and wonder if more time in school would just mean more worksheets for the kids.

Activities and syllabus must be correlated between play school and kindergarten. What children learn in their playschool must be built upon in kindergarten and there must be continuity. Most of the time, teachers in kindergarten do not really know what the children have learnt in their pre-school and waste a lot of time initially trying to assess and gauge their abilities. This in fact, kills motivation in kids who come with enthusiasm bubbling with their excellent pre-school experience.
