  • Is recession the best time to stop brooding over the lost job and go back to studying? Surprisingly the answer to this question is yes. In a report which was recently completed stated that the year 2008 saw the maximum number of increase in terms of enrolments.

The study further stated that a record number of students are enrolling and one has witnessed score of Hispanic students’ complete high school successfully as well. They are the new bunch of adults who are going to take the word by storm and are not anymore the ones who would go in for low paying jobs which have no potential for the future.

The good news is that there is diversity in the number of students who are now applying for higher education. We all know for a fact that good education will always reflect on one’s economy and now that the minority which was always regarded as the poor part of the society is on the lead and making everyone sit up and take notice. Even though in the recent past, there have been huge debates over Arizona schools wanting to continue with the ethnic study classes, and the government wanting against it, the study comes as a surprise.

The study showed that there had been a huge increase in the enrolment percent which was a total of 6 percent and in the year 2008 only, the number of students who had enrolled surpassed the 2.6 million figure. The major reason why this happened was because there was a huge numbers of minority students who applied and got through high schools and colleges.

Apparently the US has not seen such an increase since the Vietnam War period where young men got into college only to avoid going to war. In the recent times, it has been seen that maximum number of ethnic students who applied to colleges, the numbers of Hispanic students were in majority. It summed up to almost three quarters!

However, the increase in numbers of admissions was seen in the community colleges, trade schools, and public universities which are more affordable as they charge less tuition fees and the overall expenditure is less. But this is good news after all. In times when education seems to be the worst hit sphere, and it being very expensive for many students who have potential, the rise in the number of enrolments rings a happy bell.

But there are other issues the government needs to tend to. On one hand the numbers of ethnic students going in for education are increasing and on the other hand, the number of American students’ enrolments is dropping. It has apparently fallen by 53% which is an alarming rate.

The government should intervene now as it is the right time and wasting more time would mean further damage to the entire system of education. Our futures depend on education and it cannot be played with for sure.
