Statistics usually are never entertaining. Well, this could be true about most of the statistics related to higher education in our country. However, there are few statistics that create a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm. The current higher education scenario is being compared to Caddyshack, a 1980 movie.

The statistics leading to this rather outrageous and bizarre comparison are extremely entertaining.
Caddyshack involved a lot of things. The prime plot of the movie was not great enough. However, it was hilarious. Although the movie was not short on flaws, it turned out to be a classic and has made its way to history books. Even today, the movie is being remembered by many cinema lovers and appreciated all the way along.

There is every chance that many people out there have already started to wonder as to why this movie is been compared to the higher education system. Well, if you look at it closely, you would notice that a lot of things showcased in the movie about three decades ago are actually happening currently.

This movie involves many price indicators. For instance – in the 1980s, a bottle of coke costed 50 cents. This was a lot for a bottle of coke. As compared to 2012, its equivalent amount is around $1.30. Cheeseburgers were sold at around $1.75 which comes to around $4.50 in this day and age.

The movie also highlighted the issue of college fees and costs revolving around education. The lead character of the movie is known as ‘Danny’. Danny is shown working hard as a caddy, a golf bag carrying student trying to pay for his college expenses.

Danny is very aware that his parents are never going to be able to afford his college costs. On the contrary, his father has already warned him not to stop attending college as this would straightaway lead him into the lumberyard. In order to avoid working in the lumberyard, Danny starts taking up many part time jobs in order to pay for his college expenses and continue attending classes.

Interestingly, the plot in the movie is very similar to what students are experiencing today as far as higher education across our country is concerned. A number of students are facing a situation similar to what Danny went through in Caddyshack. So why exactly has higher education become so expensive in our country? Well, the entire scenario is pretty complicated and identifying a single reason behind expensive education is like trying to look for a needle in the haystack.

Eventhough, schools across the country have responded well to the situation, the cost of higher education has certainly reached a point where it is beyond the reach of many families. Students are left with no other option but to take a loan in order to study.

One of the prime reasons behind drastic increase in education expenses is the kind of facilities universities and colleges are offering students. For instance – there are colleges in America that offer international standard athletic infrastructure.
