  • The condition of higher education in our country is not too bright. It has been dim for the past couple of years. Unfortunately, things don’t look as if they would improve in the near future. California, a place that was regarded as the best as far as Universities were concerned, is facing a rather desperate situation today. The California University has been left with no other option but to increase its tuition fee to such an extent that majority of the students and their families are finding it difficult to even think of getting enrolled.

In a survey conducted recently, people from California stated that they would happily pay a higher taxation amount if the students are guaranteed a seat at a cheaper price. This is probably the first time in the history of any democracy that its people are more than willing to pay higher tax amounts, clearly indicating that things done seem too good as far as higher education is concerned.

America has never been a place where education was offered at a cheap price. This is mainly because the quality of education in this part of the world was never compromised. Hence, most of the students engaged in part-time jobs and earning opportunities while getting their degree. This helped them take care of their University expenses and automatically reduced the financial pressure.

What is even more disappointing to see is that even after indulging in part-time jobs, students are not able to take care of the ever rising tuition fee. This scenario is certainly an alarming one. It just shows that the fee amount has increased tremendously, leaving students with no other option but to drop out after high school.

Another issue that has been a worry for most of the educational administrators across the country is the lack of ability to grant discounts to students who belong to lower financial groups. These students cannot even dream of getting into a university with the kind of tuition fee they are greeted with.

This is turning out to be a major concern. This phenomenon has directly impacted the unemployment rate in the country. Although it sounds cliché, unemployment can lead to a number of social hazards, including drastic rise in the crime rate and fall of economy.

Unfortunately, these issues have been discussed time and again in the past few months. The major concern is that no concrete solution has come up as of now. This probably makes one wonder if the problem has reached a level where it cannot really be treated.

Well, one would probably argue that there is still plenty of hope, especially if the right steps are taken. However, if things do not improve in coming weeks, the issue of higher education in America would turn out to be similar to that of Global Warming, wherein a lot of discussion would happen but the result would always be disappointing.
