    Overview: Serve as a senior member of the Student Life team and report directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs. Provide vision and leadership in the development and administration of a vibrant campus life program that engages the entire campus community using nationally recognized best practices. The Director of Student Activities is responsible for the ongoing supervision and implementation of Student Life, Greek Life, New Student Orientation and Homecoming.

    Job Duties:

    Provides direct supervision, training, and evaluation of programs and staff in all supervised areas. Sets performance expectations for staff members, provides feedback, and monitors staff activities to ensure outcomes are achieved.
    Develops and implements services, activities, and opportunities that significantly helps create the student experience and enhance their adjustment to and participation in college life with the specific purpose of increasing student retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
    Supervises the quality and consistency of student development programming across multiple departments pertaining to Student Life, Orientation, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Multicultural and International Programming, and Student Organizations.
    Provides ownership, vision and leadership to the First-Year Experience. Collaborates with the Dean of Students, Academic Affairs, Academic Advising, OSID and OISSS. Responsible for planning, implementing and assessing Welcome Week: New Student Orientation.
    Supervises, mentors and develops approximately 140 student and paraprofessional staff.
    Oversees a program budget of $750,000 working to monitor expenses and maximize the quality of the student experience. Provides reports on budget and makes requests for variance as appropriate. Approves all expenditures in this area.
    Participates in on-going college strategic planning initiatives to ensure departmental involvement in the planning and implementation of programs and services aligned with the college's strategic goals. This ensures effective direction for each functional area related to the Office of Student Life and Leadership.
    In implementing the current strategic plan, this position will focus on the Office of Student Life (OSL) being "student ready" and will collaborate with faculty and other staff in considering for-credit co-curricular initiatives.
    Serves on the College's Co-Curricular Assessment Committee and lead efforts coordinating co-curricular assessment initiatives for the Office of Student Life and Leadership.
    Works with a wide range of constituency groups including student, college staff, faculty, administration and alumni while offering expertise in regard to student needs, satisfaction and engagement.
    Serves as a strong proponent for student learning and success by promoting the College student learning outcomes and Community Principles.
    Knowledge of student development theories and practices. Remain abreast of current issues and best practices in higher education, specifically in areas of direct supervisory reports.
    Lead and serve on various division and college committees.

    Requirements:
    Education: Master's Degree in student affairs, higher education, or equivalent area of study. plus a minimum of ten years of full-time, substantial and progressive administrative experience in student life management or related field in student affairs.

    Experience: 8-10 years of demonstrated leadership in a student affairs management role with substantial and progressive administrative experience.

    Skills:

    Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
    Exceptional interpersonal skills
    A solid understanding of the role a student life program plays at a private, liberal arts institution
    Strong leadership skills including organization, supervision, management of multiple projects, collaboration, enthusiasm and motivation
    Financial management skills
    Experience with crisis intervention and management
    Demonstrated success working with under-represented populations
    Ability to work collaboratively across organizational units
    Comprehensive knowledge of student development, current trends and national best practices
    Travel: This position requires limited travel to represent the College at relevant higher education professional association meetings.

    Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a frequent basis. A valid driver's license and ability to be insurance for use of campus vehicles is required. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time.
